G is for The Ghost and The Graveyard by Genevieve Jack

Grateful Knight isn’t looking for love when she moves into a rent-free house on the edge of a graveyard. At twenty-two, all she wants is to recover financially so she can move back to the city where she belongs.
But sparks fly when the gorgeous cemetery caretaker, Rick, introduces himself and mentions his suspicion that her new house might be haunted. Her attraction to him seems supernatural, and despite her resolve to not get involved, she literally can’t keep her hands off him.
When things in Grateful’s house start moving on their own, another man enters her life, Logan, a sexy ghost with a dark secret. He says Rick isn’t what he seems, and indulging her passion for him could cost her soul.
One thing’s for sure, magical forces are at work in the tiny town of Red Grove, and they’re converging on Grateful. Life will never be the same once she's forced to choose between the ghost and the graveyard.

My Review:

I adored The Ghost and the Graveyard.  I wasn't sure at first. I've been avoiding anything that definitely would have romance in it for a while now because of personal reasons and I didn't want them clouding my opinion. Throw in a love triangle, one of my personal pet peeves, and I really wasn't jumping at the bit either. But I knew I needed to bite the bullet, put my reviewers hat back on and get back on the horse.  I have to say I'm glad the first book with romance as one of the main story lines that I decided to read was this one. It's a well written page turner that pulled me inside and kept me there til the last page.

Before I go farther into detail I do want to say that The Ghost is 18 and over. While my review won't be, I'm making sure ahead of time to let you parents out there know to buy it for yourselves, not for your supernatural obsessed kids. Also the rest of the review does have some minor spoilers in regards to some of the story line of the book. I don't think it will give anything major away, but I do like to give a heads up just in case.

Ok, now that that's out of the way let me go into detail about what I liked so much about The Ghost in the Graveyard.

Let's start with the romance. The romance was there right from the first few pages. But the story isn't a romance.  It's main focus isn't the love triangle either. While both things add to the story it's more about the mystery surrounding Grateful and the other characters. It isn't about her love life, but her love life is an important part of her. So yes there's sex, but the story isn't filler around the sex scenes. The romance between her, Rick and Logan also was easy to read. The insta-love between her and Rick was explained and made sense. The relationship between her and Logan made sense too. I really enjoyed watching it blossom and grow. If you've read any of my other reviews that involve love triangles you know I HATE them with the passion of a thousand fiery suns. But I actually am intrigued by this one. I can see why she cares for both of them and I want to see how it ends. Yes, I'm putting it in print I think the love triangle in this one really makes the book a better read. Don't expect to see that ever again. lol. I still dislike them. I think the author put a lot of time and thought into building this one. Which is something I haven't seen in a long time. In most other cases I've read the love triangle is something thrown in because it's become a fad. Never a reason to use something in a story. So please don't assume I've suddenly changed teams on this one.

I love the world Jack built throughout the book. Obviously there is more that will be explored in the rest of the series, but enough of it was revealed in this first volume to make me want to see more. I want to find out about the rest of creatures that Grateful has interacted with in her many life times. I want to see how many more stories the author decides to build into it and how she weaves them together.

I loved the intrigue in the book as well. I have to say for the first time in a long time I didn't see some of the turns in the story ahead of time.  Fortunately, for the book, I enjoyed the surprises. I liked the direction the author decided to take. By the end she hadn't revealed the answers to all the questions. But, Jack had found a very nice balance between what was answered and what wasn't to keep my curiosity satisfied without giving it all away.

The ending was satisfying too. It felt like a solid finish to book one, but at the same time a good lead in for book two. I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series.

I really do recommend picking up The Ghost in The Graveyard. It has excitement, romance and mystery.  Again, it's not a kids book, adults only on this one. But it's so much more than a paranormal romance, so don't let the love triangle put you off.
