A to Z April Challenge ~ I ~ Island of Fog by Keith Robinson

Island of Fog
By: Keith Robinson

Amazon Summery:

A lonely, foggy island is home to eight families. Twelve-year-old Hal and his friends have always wondered what happened all those years ago on the mainland, that unseen place Out There beyond the fog, and after an astonishing discovery in the woods the children are more determined than ever to find out what their parents are hiding. But their lives are turned upside down when Abigail reveals her closely guarded secret. According to her, the children are slowly changing into monsters! Are they freaks of nature, or subjects of a sinister experiment? Each child reacts differently to his or her unique monstrous transformation; after all, one may feel proud to be a dragon, faerie, or centaur, but who in their right mind wants to be a sadistic manticore or cowardly harpy? ISLAND OF FOG is a story of intrigue and conspiracy. The reader follows Hal Franklin as he struggles to accept that he and his friends are something more than ordinary children, and that their parents have been covering up the truth the whole time. With their trust shaken and the unexpected arrival of a strange woman from Out There, the children hide their frightening shapeshifting abilities and pretend nothing is wrong.

My Review:

I wasn’t sure about Island of Fog to begin with.  It took a few chapters, but then it really started to grow on me.  By the time I got to the final chapter I didn’t want to stop reading.  The world Robinson has created is intriguing and has so much possibility.
I liked the characters. The kids were fun to follow on their adventure.  It was cool to see how each reacted to his or her special transformation.  The best part was they actually acted like kids.  For example when the one character transforms he has a debate in his head as to whether it would be worse to have his parents see him that way or to have to go home naked.
The ending is obviously a lead in to the next book in the series.  But it isn’t a cliffie and I think that it was satisfying. I can’t wait to get a chance to pick up the rest of the series; hopefully they will be as good as the first.

  2. I've been buying too many books recommended during the A to Z blogging, so I added it to my wish list for later. :) It actually sounds like it's right up my alley. It will probably be one of the first ones I buy. Do you know if you'll still get credit for the sale if I buy it from my wish list, since I first discovered it here?
